So I bit the bullet and renewed my Ipsy subscription for another year. I was quite surprised at this month’s selection; there were lots of new brands that haven’t been featured in the time I’ve been an Ipsy member, like: Laneige, MAC, Lime Crime, Too Faced, Youth to the People, and Ouai. Lots of luxury brands here, people! (I’m really stoked that Ipsy is starting to include more high-end brands, because if people wanted drugstore products all the time…which Ipsy has provided plenty of in the past, then there’d be little to no point in paying for a carefully cultivated subscription box). Rant over.
Without further adieu, the November review! (woohoo, that rhymed)
BAG
I was not a fan of the bag this month. There were two versions-a nice dark blue and a pukey, mustard yellow. Guess which one I got? Mustard yellow is generally neither an appealing color, nor one most people would purchase for anything – clothing, footwear, eyeshadow, lipgloss, or in this case, as a makeup bag. Other than the color, the bag has a cool design with an off-centered pattern. The inside is lined…I’d probably like it but for the awful color…so I’d give it maybe a 1/5 for effort, but certainly not something I’d keep or even give away.
CONTENTS
Oribe Hair Care Gold Lust Dry Shampoo, 1 oz: This is a dry shampoo that goes on without the white residue you might find in other brands (aka great for dark and light hair colors). I actually got to try this item prior to this bag, and I really liked it. It has a great scent, and according to Ipsy, that’s because it has “Fragrance Retention Technology,” which means the fragrance doesn’t fade immediately after you spray it (so be sure to test it on a small part of hair before spraying it all over, just in case you’re not a fan of the scent).
Full size comes in 6oz and retails for $44; this sample at 1oz would be valued at $7.34.
Manna Kadar Cosmetics Lip Locked Stain in All of Me, 1.5 g: Ipsy totes that this is a 3-in-1 product: primer, stain, and gloss. I’m not a fan of lip stains, so this was a miss for me. I’m more of a gloss or regular lipstick girl…just preference. If you like stains, then this might be a fun product to try!
-Ipsters will receive this in either All of Me or Pinot Noir.
Full size is 4.8g and retails $24; this sample at 1.5g would be valued at $7.50.
Global Beauty Care Dead Sea Wash Off Mask, 1 oz: I love a good mask, but honestly, when I looked this one up and saw that it retails at Walmart, I got that Charlie Brown “wa wa wa.” It was kind of a bummer to see such an inexpensive product in the box, but nonetheless, it’s a great mask to pack for a trip or an overnight somewhere. It’s supposed to be a deep-cleansing mask with salt & minerals from the dead sea in order to draw out dirt and toxins in the skin. You can also use this mask on your neck, back, or chest as well, so it’s more versatile than a regular face mask.
Full size retails for $14 for 5 pack of masks; this single mask values at $2.80.
MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance, 6 mL: This is a primer that also doubles as a highlighter. Ipsy says that it controls oil, hydrates, and smoothes complexion with Vitamins E & C.
Full size retails for $42 at 50mL; this sample values at $5.04.
Tarte Deluxe Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Feisty, 1.5 g: I’ve tried this blush before in a Tarte set that I purchased about a year ago. It’s nice but very densely packed-in. Ipsy says that it’s “soft, silky, and easy to blend with your fingertips or a brush,” but honestly I think it either doesn’t come off very well or too much, so you have to be careful how you apply it, and/or try it out with different brushes.
-Ipsters will receive Feisty (dusty rose), Quirky (coral), OR Idol (nude shimmer)
Full size valued at $29 at 5.6g; this values at $7.77.
TOTAL VALUE OF BAG CONTENTS: $30.45
Overall, this bag has a much lower “value” than previous Ipsy bags I’ve received, so that was kind of a bummer (especially since I already had 2/5 of the items in this haul). I do enjoy using all of the products except the lip stain (I’m more of a gloss girl), so that’s a win. I found out that you can contact Ipsy to have one or two products put on a “no thanks, don’t send me” list…so now lip stains are on there on my “don’t send” preferences.
Here’s hoping next month’s bag has a better color palette and there are new products and/or brands to try!
